Policies:

All lessons must be canceled with more that 24 hours notice. Any less that 24 hours and you will pay for the entirety of the lessons. Thunderstorms are the only exceptions. As you know Texas likes to throw curve balls often when it comes to weather.

We do ask that you do not bring a contagious/feverish child to swim, this endangers the other children, their families as well as Miss Amber’s family. Miss Amber’s schedule will be full so make up availability for the week is rare.

Prior starting lessons parents MUST notify the instructor of any relevant medical experiences, learning disabilities, or water experiences that may interfere with our curriculum.

Please do not give your child a meal one hour prior to the lesson, especially milk products. Even during an easy day at the pool a child will swallow air and water this combo can cause them to throw up. You are strongly encouraged to feed them a snack after the lesson.

Please get on the schedule early in the year as it does fill up quickly. If a check is returned for any reason a $25 fee will be added to your balance and once notified of the returned check payment is due immediately.

Gray Whale Swim School reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

All students that are not fully potty trained are required to wear 2 swim diapers. It can be one disposable with a non disposable on top or 2 non disposables. We recommend using the elastic kind and the snap kind over that.

Gray Whale Swim School is not responsible for lost or stolen items while at the pool. Lessons begin and end promptly, Please arrive 10 mins early so that you have time to gather your swim items and use the bathroom.

Pool Rules and Code of Conduct:

  • THERE IS NO RUNNING ON THE POOL DECK.
  • Any swimmer with hair long enough to get in their face or eyes must have it pulled back securely or wear a swim cap.
  • There will be no pushing, dunking, or throwing things in the pool.
  • No eating or chewing candy or gum during the lesson.
  • Glass is never allowed by the pool.
  • Please clean up all toys and pool equipment when done with them (Put them back in the bucket)
  • We highly recommend having your child use the bathroom before the lesson. You will not get this lesson time back should they have to go during the lesson.
  • Parent should supervise all children to ensure safety and that there are not disturbances for the the child in the lesson.
  • Please do not allow your child to put on fins prior to the lesson. Fins are meant to be worn in the water only and should NEVER be worn on the pool deck.
  • Unless otherwise directed, all students over the age of 3 years should bring their own set of swim goggles to each lesson.
  • Children are not permitted to wear water wings, puddle jumpers, life jackets or other wearable floatation devices during the lessons. We also suggest you not use these in general as it creates a false sense of confidence and misunderstanding of how water works.
  • Please remove all band aids prior to getting in the pool. If a wound is open enough that others would be at risk of contracting blood-born pathogens we suggest using a liquid band aid or canceling the lesson.
  • An upset child will calm much easier when they realize Mom and Dad will return once they stop crying. So if your child is crying the instructor may ask youth step away. Out of sight but still in earshot incase we need you back. This out of sight out of mind concept will work in time. Please be patient and know that if you are relaxed you child is more likely to relax.
  • We “Whale” ask that you always watch the pool. Although our lessons are private and have the ever watching attention of the instructor it only takes an instant for a child to slip underwater. If this occurs please remain calm the child’s reaction will depend on yours. Be positive and reassuring. We want to keep all our little swimmers safe and the best way to do that is with the helpful watch of their parents.

Photo Release: Periodically pictures will be taken of our classes to display on advertisements, on the website, or on promotional material. Most of the time your instructor will ask before doing this. If you have any concern about your child’s picture being taken please notify us upon enrollment. These images or videos will not be sold and are only to show others how our program works.
